Soaltee Crowne Plaza brings the taste of Malabar Coast to Kathmandu with a 12-day fiesta

Commencing today onwards the Kerala Food Festival, an ongoing event hosted by Soaltee Crowne Plaza will be teasing taste buds until March 24. Their popular Indian outlet, Kakori hosted an inauguration ceremony on March 11 that witnessed a huge crowd. Guests from the Indian Embassy, board members from the hotel, Indian artists, corporate invitees, in-house guests and media were in attendance for the inauguration of this 12-day-long carnival.

The evening formally started with His Excellency Shri Manjeev Singh Puri, Ambassador of India to Nepal, lighting oil lamps and followed by a short speech about the invigorating Kerala culture. The event proceeded with the fabulous performances by the traditional Indian artists. The outdoor event became livelier as traditional Kathakali performers took centre-stage, having everyone in awe.

The food festival was then inaugurated with a ribbon cutting ceremony by H.E Shri Manjeev Singh Puri, Ambassador of India to Nepal. The venue had an alluring Kerelan décor with bananas leaves and coconuts on display and at the entrance gate. Beautiful portraits from Kerala were upholstered, flaunting their exquisite and simple culture.

Guests were immediately drawn by the tempting aroma of the various spices. All the dishes were made in traditional South Indian style prepared in clay pots. Three stalls of excellence including appetisers, main course and dessert, Keralan cuisine with its distinct and original flavours is pure bliss on your palate.
Tasting even better than it looks, anyone would want a second helping. Delicacies such as the Kadala Curry and Puttu were a hit with a kick of spices and coconuts. From Thalassery Biryani, Appam, Erissery to Lentil stew, Malabar Parotha, fish curry to mouth refreshing Palada Payasam and Ada Pradhaman every item on the buffet was an extravagance to say the least.
The night was a success in reflecting the interesting Kerala culture. A wonderfully themed food festival, mirroring traditional performances and lavish food culture of South India is surely an event you don’t want to miss.
