Spain has recorded that in total 31.3 million visitors arrived in Spain in 2021, a whopping 64.4 per cent more than in 2020 but still 62.7 percent below 2019 figures

Despite the chaos of COVID-19 and its new variants, Spain has seen a rise in its tourism sector during 2021. The Spanish Statistical Office has recorded that in total 31.3 million visitors arrived in Spain in 2021, a whopping 64.4 per cent more than in 2020. But the industry still has a long road to full recovery as the 2021 number is still 62.7 per cent less than the pre-pandemic level of 83.7 million visitors in 2019.

All across the country, there have been improvements in the sector in 2021 from 2020. Germany and France have been the biggest contributor to the tourism of Spain with 5.8 million and 5.2 million visitors respectively flocked towards Spain.

In terms of income, tourists contributed about 4 billion USD to the Spanish economy in 2021, which is a significant increase from the 776 million USD in 2020. But it is still dwarfed by the 39 billion USD the tourism industry generated in 2019.

Many officials in Spain have been surprised by the recovery of Spain's recovery as the Omicron didn't hamper the recovery by much. While there were much lost time, money and resources in travel restriction and quarantine measures, it hasn't affected the travel and tourists sector as badly as it was projected. It is projected that Spain will consolidate the recovery of the sector and  is going to take advantage of its strengths in the face of other destinations
