A building of currency museum has been constructed on the occasion of the 82nd establishment years of the National Museum Chhauni. National Museum chief Jayaram Shrestha handed over a key of the new building to the chief of Currency Museum Pratima Ranjeet amidst a program today. The new building is constructed on the premises of the National Museum.
Construction of the three-storied building was initiated following the 2015 Gorkha Earthquake. The devastating quake had broken down the deteriorating building of the Currency Museum. The currency dating back from the fifth century to paper notes has been collected and showcased in the museum. It also has gathered the currencies that were in use before the eighth century BC.
The museum building was constructed at the initiative of the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA). Museum chief Shrestha shared that an additional budget of Rs 70 million was demanded from the NRA to give complete shape to the building. “The museum could be given a complete shape structurally if the budgetary arrangement was made as per the demand”, he added.
On the occasion of the establishment day, the entrance gate of the national museum was inaugurated. At the program, the ‘Virtual Reality Museum Tour’ was also inaugurated which offers visitors to observe historical heritages inside the museum through virtual mode. With this, one can observe the museum from anywhere anytime.
