The Ministry of Health and Population has directed all concerned to not use the rapid test kits which were recently brought from China.
"The test kits will be used only after determining its quality. The direction acts on complaints that rapid test kits supplied illegally to the market are being put to use. The government aims to control it," according to a statement issued by Dr Khem Karki, the health expert at the Ministry.
"The Nepal Health Research Council has been requested to check the quality of those kits purchased by the government from China. They would be distributed only after the council verifies its quality and recommends its use," reads the statement.
The test kits are used for screening for the infection as a PCR machine cannot handle hundreds of tests at a time, according to the statement.
