Helicopters, valued at $44 million, will be delivered over the next few years and will come with comprehensive support, including pilot and maintainer training and logistics assistance

The United States is significantly enhancing its support for Nepal’s disaster recovery and relief efforts through a substantial aircraft donation, further strengthening the bilateral relationship between the two nations. This initiative is part of a broader commitment from the United States, which includes three different grants from the Department of State aimed at bolstering Nepal’s emergency response capabilities.

In 2022, the U.S. committed to providing Nepal with two Bell 412 helicopters, a crucial addition to Nepal’s disaster management arsenal. These helicopters, valued at $44 million, will be delivered over the next few years and will come with comprehensive support, including pilot and maintainer training and logistics assistance. This investment not only includes the helicopters themselves but also encompasses critical training to ensure their effective use in various disaster scenarios.

Furthermore, during a recent visit, U.S. Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources Richard Verma announced an additional commitment of $100 million in grant assistance. This funding is designated for acquiring further helicopters, as well as additional training and support equipment. However, this additional support is contingent upon congressional notification and the availability of funds. The goal is to provide Nepal with enhanced capabilities to manage and respond to natural disasters more efficiently.

Both governments are actively working together to customize and build the aircraft to suit Nepal’s unique needs for disaster relief and recovery. This collaboration aims to ensure that the provided resources are perfectly aligned with Nepal’s requirements, maximizing their effectiveness in emergency situations. The ongoing partnership highlights the strong ties between the U.S. and Nepal and reflects a shared commitment to improving disaster response and recovery efforts in the region.
