Tourism entrepreneurs have demanded a 50 per cent rebate on the power tariff, considering the impact of the Corona Virus to the tourism sector. In a meeting with Energy Minister Barshaman Pun on Friday, the COVID-19 tourism entrepreneurs' disaster coordination committee members said the tourism entrepreneurs are bound to pay a huge sum to the Nepal Electricity Authority in demand charges.

The committee coordinator Bhabiswar Sharma Dhungana said tourism business in Thamel remained closed during the lockdown hence our demand is for a rebate of 50 per cent for at least two years since the beginning of the lockdown. Representatives of more than two dozen travel and tourism related organisations were part of the delegation that met the Energy Minister.

In response, Minister Pun expressed commitment to discuss the matter with concerned authorities. The government is serious about addressing the problems faced by every sector as a result of the lockdown imposed to check the flow of Corona Virus in the country, he said.
