The United States has joined its European and Western allies and has announced a ban on all Russian flights from its airspace. This announcement has followed a similar decision from the EU, the UK and Canada to ban Russian planes from their airspace following the invasion of Ukraine.

With the American President Joe Biden announcing this decision, the US government body  Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)  orders will take effect from the end of Wednesday. This will cause any aircraft owned, certified, operated, registered, chartered, leased, or controlled by, for, or for the benefit of, a person who is a Russian citizen.

This will include passenger and cargo flights as well charter flights 'effectively' closing United States airspace to all Russian commercial air carriers and  Russian civil aircraft'. With this decision, many airlines have already tried to untangle their organization from Russia. United Airlines has announced that it has temporarily suspended flying over Russian airspace. In addition, Delta Air Lines, American Airlines and United Parcel Service have also confirmed this week that they have halted flights over Russia
