At a program organised at Myanglung bazar, Tehrathum was declared as the capital of dhaka clothes.
The decision was made on July 4 with the motive of endorsing dhaka industry and laterally ensuring the growth of necessary skills, publicity, entrepreneurship, diversification, and commercialisation.
For years, dhaka clothes have been the major source of income in Tehrathum district. Sanjay Kumar Tumbahamphe, Mayor of Myanglung Municipality, shared that the local government has been providing training on dhaka weaving with an aim to promote and market it.
At the Office of Small and Cottage Industries, Tehrathum, a total of 145 dhaka businesses have been registered. They further announced that the number of people getting trained in dhaka weaving had reached more than 10,000 with the industry providing employment to 5,000 people in the district.
