Trekkers and guides can now collect 1 kg bags of recyclable materials at this station near Pangboche Kani and drop them off at the designated drop-off point in Lukla.

The Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee (SPCC) has launched a new pickup location in Pangboche for their "Carry Me Back" (CMB) initiative. Trekkers and guides can now collect 1 kg bags of recyclable materials at this station near Pangboche Kani and drop them off at the designated drop-off point in Lukla.

The CMB project was first tested successfully during the autumn 2019 trekking season but had to be put on hold in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It has now resumed operations in the spring of 2022 and 2023.

During the spring 2023 season alone, SPCC gathered 18,080 PET bottles at their waste facility in Namche Bazaar, preventing them from ending up in landfills. These bottles were shredded, packed, and transported by volunteers through the CMB program to be recycled in Kathmandu.
