Sankata Jatra is celebrated on the occasion of Fagu Purnima at Panauti in Kavrepalanchok. This Jatra is celebrated especially by the Acharyas and people of the head community living in this area.
On the day of Fagu Purnima, the Jatra starts from the Sankata temple in Panauti in the morning and circumambulates with the goods of various monasteries and again reaches the same temple and ends after the distribution of prasad.
It is customary to celebrate Jatra by wishing for family happiness, peace, and prosperity as well as reconciliation and relief from the crisis. In Sankata Jatra, the Holi festival is celebrated by offering abir to each other and exchanging happiness. The Jatra is also called Abeer Jatra.
As in the past, this year too, women dressed in red have performed pilgrimage and worship with puja material. Satyanarayan Karmacharya was the chief priest of the Jatra.
“This Jatra, which was stopped for some time after being celebrated since ancient times, was restarted in 2067 with the activities of the local youth and Bhintuna Group. Achaju or Karmacharya has been worshiping in the temple,” said Roshan Kumar Shrestha, a member of the Jatra Management Committee._Rss
