The speakers at the tourism workshop conference held in Butwal underlined that tourism can only be promoted when a clear policy is developed and implemented.
Presenting a working paper at the workshop, Dr. Alok Pasai noted that the challenges to tourism development include legal complexity, political issues, the absence of tourism-friendly procedures, vagueness of clarity regarding authority between the three levels, inadvertent infrastructure, the availability of air services, a shortage of skilled labour, and the effects of COVID-19.
He asserted that policies and intentions must be clear to address these issues, human resource capacity must be effectively promoted, and tourism must be diversified.
Bhim Prasad Acharya, former minister and head of the CPN (UML) tourism department, claimed that the nation's dire financial situation has an impact on tourism. He explained promoting tourism would boost the nation's economic crisis, so the department has started making effective plans.
He stated that it was essential to identify any shortcomings in existing tourism promotion policies before creating and implementing strategies and programs that included solutions.
