The upcoming Fewa New Year Festival in Pokhara, Kaski, commencing from April 11, carries the theme of 'tourism, culture, and food.' The event, organized by the Hotel Association Pokhara, will feature a range of activities such as showcasing indigenous cuisine, cultural parades, folk music performances, and a marathon competition for tourists. Notably, participants can enjoy these recreational programs free of charge along a 3.5-kilometer stretch from Damside Chowk to Khahare Chowk.
In a motive to enhance visitor experience, Pokhara-based hotels have collectively agreed to reduce service charges by 20% throughout the festival. With expectations of hosting 300,000 tourists, both domestic and foreign, this 19th edition of the festival aims to revitalize tourism in the region.
Chairperson Laxman Subedi emphasized the collaborative effort between various stakeholders, including government bodies, to ensure the festival's success. However, amidst preparations for this grand event, it was revealed that around 25 hotel entrepreneurs in Pokhara have faced displacement, and approximately 500,000 individuals have been impacted by unemployment, attributed to the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.
