Pokhara is set to host an international hot air balloon festival, organized by Balloon Nepal Pvt. Ltd. The event, scheduled from December 29 to January 2 to celebrate the New Year 2025, will take place around the Phewa Lake area with the aim of enhancing Pokhara's global profile, according to Bikram Bade, Chairperson of Balloon Nepal Pvt. Ltd.
The festival will feature 20 to 25 balloons from various countries, with an estimated cost of Rs 6.5 million. It is being organized with support from several organizations including the Nepal Tourism Board, the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, the Gandaki Province Government, the Pokhara Metropolitan City, the Nepal Civil Aviation Authority, and the Pokhara Tourism Council.
Pomnarayan Shrestha, Chair of the Pokhara Tourism Council, noted that the festival will be a landmark event for Pokhara, often referred to as the tourism capital of Nepal, and for the entire Gandaki Province.
Sabin Maharjan, the owner of Balloon Nepal, highlighted that the hot air balloon experience offers views of landmarks such as Machhapuchhre, Annapurna, the expansive Phewa Lake, Pumdikot Mahadev, and the paragliding activity from Sarangkot, showcasing the stunning landscape of the Pokhara Valley.
