Panchthar, the eastern hilly district in State-1, has reported the first COVID-19 case.

A 25-year-old woman who recently was rescued from Kuwait and has been quarantined here for three days was tested positive for the virus. The test of her throat swab sample was conducted at the State Public Health Laboratory, Biratnagar, according to District Health Office, Panchthar's Chief Narad Subedi.

Following her rescue, she was put in the Bhaktapur-based holding center before sending her to the district. However, three others rescued from other countries who are accompanying her in the quarantine have tested negative.

A total of 57 swab samples (four returned from abroad and 53 from India) were sent for the test and one report came negative. Until the filing of the report, preparations were on to transport her to the Koshi Hospital Biratnagar.
