Over 2,400 face action for disobeying lockdown in Kathmandu

Two thousand four hundred and twenty-seven people faced action in the Kathmandu Valley on Tuesday for disobeying the lockdown orders. The Metropolitan Police Office Kathmandu said among them 559 are women.

The highest number of people facing action was in Kathmandu. Two thousand and nineteen people faced action in Kathmandu followed by 398 in Lalitpur and 10 in Bhaktapur. In this connection, police also took 320 two-wheeler and 50 four-wheeler vehicles under control. The government has issued lockdown orders across the country from March 24 as a preventive measure against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Those people held on the charge of disobeying the lockdown orders are imparted information on coronavirus threat and the sensitivity of the situation and released after three hours, Chief of the Metropolitan Police Office, Deputy Inspector General Bishwo Raj Pokharel, said. The government has extended the lockdown until April 27. Sixteen people have been infected by COVID-19 in the country so far.
