Minister of Tourism Shrestha went to Canada on October 9, leading the Nepali delegation to participate in the ICAO General Assembly. Ministers and high-ranking officials of 193 countries are participating in the General Assembly.

 

In the General Assembly, discussions will be held on environmental protection, aviation safety and facilitation, aviation capacity and efficiency enhancement, as well as aviation policies, strategies and solutions to problems in this area, including air transport and economic development.ICAO's General Assembly will vote for the election of member states. The Nepali delegation is scheduled to visit Nepal on October 5.

Nepali skies are safe as Nepal's score in compliance with air safety standards is higher than global standards in the ICAO report. The government is committed to making the aviation sector safe, reliable and standard.

Earlier, Minister Shrestha met Secretary General Juan Carlos Salazar and ICAO Council President Salvatore Sachitano at the ICAO headquarters and said that there is no reason for the EU to keep Nepal on the flight safety list since Nepal has made significant improvements in air safety.

Pointing out that Gautam Buddha International Airport is in operation and Pokhara International Airport is in the final stages of construction. The government has given priority to expanding air connectivity, upgrading the airport and building a new airport.

“Nepalese skies are safe while addressing the 41st Triennial General Assembly of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).” Said Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister Jeevan Ram Shrestha.

“There is no alternative to air transport in view of Nepal's land and ground and the government is committed to make the air service safe, regular, classy and efficient.” He added.
