Hotel Annapurna organised a walkathon programme amongst its staff followed by the cleaning up campaign of Durbar Marg area on World Environment Day, June 5

Hotel Annapurna has carried out numerous eco-friendly schemes, under the slogan: ‘Be Green! Go Green! Do Green!’, one of such schemes being the discouragement of usage of plastic bags. To mark the World environment Day 2019, this year Hotel Annapurna organised a walkathon programme amongst its staff followed by the cleaning of Durbar Marg area which was graced by the 2019 Miss Nepal Earth, Riya Basnet.

The programme started at 9:00 am from Kumari Temple, Hotel Annapurna. Before the walkathon programme and the cleanup began all the participants were given T-shirts, precautionary gears such as gloves and mask. Jute bags were used to collect the garbage instead of plastic bags.

World Environment Day is the biggest annual event for positive environment action and takes place every June 5. This day was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972 and has been observed worldwide since 1973.

According to Miss Nepal Earth, Riya Basnet, “World Environment is not the only day that people should take positive actions towards the environment. Even in one’s daily life small gestures can be done to minimise pollution such as reducing food wastes. Participating in programmes like this creates awareness and motivates the general public.”

Hotel Annapurna also conducted an Art Competition among the children of their staff members on June 1, with World Environment Day as the topic. CEO, Raju Bikram Shah added, “Today the youth are more conscious about these environmental issues and are working towards minimising negative adversities of global warming. Being a part of this celebration gives us an opportunity to share our ideas and activities for making the world cleaner, greener and brighter.”
