Dubai Expo 2020 which was rescheduled a year later due to the pandemic is currently in operation in the UAE. The expo with participation from 192 countries and 50 international organisations has been in operation since October, 2021 and will conclude at the end of March. The Expo 2020 Dubai aims to foster creativity, innovation and collaboration between nations, cultures and institutions with the theme of 'Connecting Minds, Creating the Future'.

Nepal celebrated its National Day at Expo 2020 Dubai on February 3 with a chariot procession of divine Indra, revered for bringing rain and prosperity. The National Day celebrations were also marked by a pledge to work collaboratively in order to create a better, safer future for all.

   

 

The National Day celebrations took centre stage and concluded on February 3 with much fanfare and an elaborate ceremony. The event was attended by government representatives, dignitaries, individuals from the business fraternity and thousands of Nepali nationals living in the UAE. Yacoub Yousef Al Hosani, UAE Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for International Organisations Affairs, welcomed Krishna Prasad Dhakal, Ambassador of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal to the UAE.

Al Hosani said, “Through its pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, Nepal sheds light on its revived potential as a vital link between some of the world’s fastest-growing super economies and seeks to promote the vast opportunities it has to offer in fields such as tourism and hydro energy. The UAE is proud of its relations with Nepal, which have thrived since their establishment 45 years ago, and we look forward to exploring the potential for expanding future collaboration in areas of mutual interest, such as education, climate change and tourism, with the aim of ensuring the continued prosperity and welfare of our people.”

Dhakal added, “This Expo is the epitome of the vision and determination of the UAE leadership and testimony to the collaboration and resilience of mankind against COVID-19 pandemic. At this Expo, we have opportunities to learn from each other, cultivate collaborations and partnerships and formulate strategies and programmes for inclusive and sustainable development. We promise to work together to create a better and safer future for all.”

He further stated, “We are showcasing our natural beauty, cultural heritage, social diversity and business potential in sectors like tourism, infrastructure development, fresh drinking water and agriculture among others. We are promoting Nepal not only as an attractive destination for foreign tourists, but also for investors and entrepreneurs.”
