The Metropolitan Police Office said that 2685 people, including 659 women, faced action for flouting lockdown orders in Kathmandu Valley on Wednesday. They were released three hours after being detained and sensitised against COVID-19.
The highest number of people were held from Kathmandu, with 2157 held on charges of defying the shutdown. The Office said that 480 people were held in Lalitpur and 48 from Bhaktapur. Similarly, 321 vehicles were impounded on the same charge and their drivers punished. Among these vehicles, 297 were two-wheelers while 24 were four-wheelers.
"Those disobeying the lockdown are sensitised about the risk of coronavirus infection and then released, said Chief of the Office, Deputy Inspector General Bishworaj Pokharel.
