The organizing committee predicts that approximately 500,000 people, both from Nepal and abroad, will attend the event

The Swayambhu Management and Conservation General Committee is expecting a larger number of devotees this year, thanks to the recent reconstruction of monuments at the historic site.

Ashok Buddhacharya, the general secretary of the Committee, mentioned that makeshift tent shops have been removed to provide more convenience for visitors.

The organizing committee predicts that approximately 500,000 people, both from Nepal and abroad, will attend the event.

In the Newari language, ‘Gun’ means ninth and ‘La’ means month. This festival is celebrated during the ninth month of the Nepal Sambat calendar.

During this time, a month-long fair is held at Swayambhunath, the renowned Buddhist shrine.

Throughout the festival, Newar Buddhists engage in reciting scriptures, fasting, and visiting places of worship while playing devotional music. Pilgrims, accompanied by their traditional musical instruments, visit Swayambhunath Stupa early every morning.
