Every year on the 15th of Falgun, they celebrate the 41st anniversary of the Nepal Magar Association.

The Magar community is proud of its identity. They openly enjoy culture and lifestyle. Every year 15th of Falgun comes with joy for them. Monday is the 41st foundation day of the Nepal Magar Association.

The community has been celebrating the day when the Magars were organized as 'Magar Ekta Diwas'. Gandaki is also a province with a large population of Magars. The history, tradition, and culture of this place have the sign of the Magars. As always, this year too the Magar community has celebrated its Unity Day with joy. Somewhere there was a cultural/sports fair, somewhere else a formal ceremony. Magars also take this day as an opportunity to exchange happiness and eat delicious food at home.

Some of the local levels of Gandaki, which has a Magar population, declared a public holiday on Monday. District Coordination Committee of Nepal Magar Association, Kaski also celebrated the day with a cultural program in Pokhara. The procession, accompanied by tableaus, songs, and dances reflecting Magar culture, circumambulated the main areas of the city.

Magars dressed in ethnic attire participated in the tableau with items and materials reflecting their traditions. Women in sekhu ode, men swinging with halojuwa. Young women dressed in jewelry and costumes. Magar Day gave a glimpse of the Nepali original culture. The traditional model house reflecting the mountain architecture also added charm to the tableau. Some were dancing on Panchebaza, some on Kaura. Somewhere Sorathi was buzzing, somewhere Yanimaya.

After the tableau exhibition, the main ceremony of the day continued for some time in the auditorium of the Magar Association in Pokhara-10. The organizers gave more place to the cultural presentation than the speech. Different groups performed their songs and dances. While the main ceremony of the day was going on inside, there was an equal number of people dancing and singing outside the hall. Everyone came to celebrate the day dressed in their Magar clothes.

The tribal community is capable of leading the country if given the opportunity. Their own history, lifestyle, and culture have given the Magars a unique identity.

The youth of the tribal community give up their love for foreign countries and come to the civil sector to serve the country. The day will inspire to further strengthen the unity among Magars. Sujan Lama, the chief secretary of the Tribal Federation of Gandaki, requested the government to make Magar Day a public day. The inclusive and proportional representation of tribal communities should be ensured in every state agency.

Nepal Magar Association Gandaki Province Vice President Tara Thapamagar said Magar language courses should be taught in schools. The Magar community should unite for linguistic, cultural, and political rights. Tamu Dhin Nepal Kaski President Hom Tamu said that there is still a struggle to be done for the rights of tribals. He held the view that the Magars should excel in education and politics by uniting themselves organizationally.

The day of the establishment of the association will be celebrated as Magar Unity Day. Falgun 15 is a historic day for us, we celebrate Ekta Diwas as a celebration. On the occasion of the day, the group that performed the best cultural tableau was also awarded cash.

“The historical contribution of Magar community in social transformation. Magar community as a patriotic, hardworking, honest and disciplined community,” Chief District Officer of Kaski, Tek Bahadur KC._Rss
