Renowned mountaineer Kami rita Sherpa has made history by scaling Mount Everest (Sagarmatha) for the 27th time, setting a new record for the highest number of ascents on this majestic mountain. At 53 years old, Kami Rita reached the summit at 8:30 a.m. today, surpassing his own previous record and solidifying his position as a legendary Everest summiteer. Yuwaraj Khatiwada, Director of the Department of Tourism, confirmed this remarkable achievement.
Kami Rita, originally from Thame in Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality, Solukhumbu district, and currently residing in Kathmandu, has continuously pushed the boundaries of mountaineering. His latest ascent serves as a testament to his unwavering determination and passion. While the exact number of climbers reaching the summit today is yet to be determined due to communication limitations, Khatiwada expressed optimism that many mountaineers would conquer Everest by evening, hinting at exciting news to come.
Mingma Gyalzen Sherpa, Director of Imagine Nepal Treks and Expedition Company, shared that more than 100 mountaineers, including Kamirita, have successfully climbed Mount Everest this spring. The significant number of ascents sends a strong message to the world, assuring the safety of Nepal's mountaineering sector. Aspiring mountaineers are encouraged, and the mountaineering industry in Nepal is further promoted through such accomplishments.
Kamirita's first ascent of Everest took place on May 13, 1994. Since then, he has conquered numerous mountains over 8,000 meters, both in Nepal and abroad, an astounding 39 times to date. Additionally, Pasang Dawa Sherpa has reached the summit for the 26th time this spring, closely following Kamirita's footsteps.
This season has seen a record-breaking number of climbers attempt to scale Mount Everest, as Nepal issued the highest number of Everest climbing permits in history. Since the first successful ascent on May 29, 1953, the Department of Tourism has issued 478 permits for 44 groups for this season, further solidifying Mount Everest's status as an iconic and sought-after mountaineering destination._Rss
