Asia-Pacific countries recorded surging COVID-19 infections on Tuesday, as India's total tally rose to 30,316,897 with 37,566 new cases registered during the past 24 hours. "India reports less than 40,000 daily new cases after 102 days," said the federal health ministry in an official statement.

The death toll mounted to 397,637 as 907 deaths were recorded since Monday morning. There are still 552,659 active cases in the country as there was a fall of 20,335 during the past 24 hours. So far, 29,366,601 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospitals, with 56,994 of them discharged during the past 24 hours.

The confirmed cases in Indonesia rose by 20,467 in the past 24 hours to 2,156,465, with the death toll adding by 463 to 58,024, the health ministry said. According to the ministry, 9,645 more recovered patients were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recoveries from the coronavirus epidemic in the Southeast Asian country to 1,869,606.

Specifically, in the past 24 hours, Jakarta recorded 7,379 new confirmed cases, West Java 3,908, Central Java 2,932, East Java 1,065 and Yogyakarta 850. The Philippines' Department of Health (DOH) reported 4,479 new infections, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the Southeast Asian country to 1,408,058.

The death toll climbed to 24,557 after 101 more patients died from the viral disease, the DOH said, adding that 14 laboratories failed to submit data.
