Roland Hunter, an experienced runner, has set a new record for the fastest known time (FKT) from Lukla to Everest Base Camp. Hunter, who recently finished a tough 100-mile race called the Manjushree Trail Race around the Kathmandu Valley, and got used to the altitude in Lukla in March, decided to take on this big challenge.
Hunter started from Lukla at 4:21 am on May 13, despite heavy rain. He faced various difficulties along the way, like bad weather and delays caused by a line of horses crossing the Hillary Bridge. Despite these problems, Hunter made it to Namche Bazaar in just three hours. He said, "The trail was a bit slippery, but since I live in Dartmoor National Park, I'm used to rain and mud, so it felt familiar."

Hunter got great support from Ang Chhutin, who helped him like an official race station at Pheriche. "Ang Chhutin is a runner too and won the Everest marathon in 2014." Hunter reached Everest Base Camp at 2:44 pm, setting a new FKT by finishing the journey in an amazing time of 10 hours and 23 minutes.
When he got back to Lukla, Hunter got a warm welcome from Mingma Sherpa, Chairman of Pasang Lamu Rural Municipality, and Ang Phurba, a local government member.
