Himalaya Airlines is delighted to announce the commencement of its historic Kathmandu-Lhasa-Kathmandu flight service, inaugurated on December 28, 2023. This momentous event signifies a significant milestone in the airline's commitment to enhancing connectivity and fostering bilateral ties between Nepal and China.

Lhasa, the capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region in China, stands as a cultural and spiritual hub amidst the majestic Himalayas. Renowned for its breathtaking landscapes and ancient monasteries, Lhasa holds profound significance as the epicenter of Tibetan Buddhism and culture. The city's rich history and unique traditions make it an alluring destination for travelers seeking a glimpse into Tibet's spiritual heritage and natural wonders.

The newly introduced Kathmandu-Lhasa-Kathmandu route provides passengers with seamless travel options between the vibrant capital city of Nepal and the historically rich, picturesque city of Lhasa.

The inaugural outbound flight, H9 774, departed from Tribhuvan International Airport at 08:40 local time, arriving at Lhasa Gonggar Airport at 12:00 local time, with a flight duration of one hour and twenty minutes. The first flight accommodated a total of 136 passengers. Initially operating weekly on Thursdays starting December 28, 2023, the service will transition to a weekly flight every Monday, effective January 1, 2024. This marks the fifth direct connection Himalaya Airlines has established between China and Nepal, complementing existing flight operations to Beijing, Chongqing, Qingdao, and Shanghai.

The inaugural flight event was graced by the presence of the Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Hon. Mr. Sudan Kirati, as the chief guest, alongside Mr. Wang Xin, Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of the People’s Republic of China to Nepal, and other dignitaries. They were welcomed by Mr. Zhou Enyong, President, and officials of Himalaya Airlines.

During the ceremony, Minister Kirati remarked, "I am honored to be part of this historic moment as we celebrate the commencement of the Kathmandu-Lhasa-Kathmandu flight service by Himalaya Airlines. This newly established route represents a significant advancement in the transportation network linking Nepal and China, expanding connectivity options beyond the previously predominant Arniko Highway. This enhancement in transportation infrastructure promotes increased accessibility and signifies a broader and more diverse network for trade, tourism, and overall bilateral relations between Nepal and China.”

Mr. Wang Xin, Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of the People’s Republic of China to Nepal, shared, "This inaugural flight marks a momentous occasion in further strengthening the bilateral relations between Nepal and China, fostering closer cultural and connectivity ties." The Tibet Autonomous Region shares a longstanding, friendly connection with Nepal, woven through mountains, rivers, and generations, serving as a crucial link in China-Nepal relations and fostering close religious exchanges between the Tibetan and Nepalese communities.

Expressing enthusiasm for the newly launched route, Mr. Vijay Shrestha, Vice President of Himalaya Airlines and spokesperson, stated, “The main mission of Himalaya is to operate flights to 10 different tourism sectors in China and welcome one million tourists to Nepal. H9 has always explored trailblazing and new routes to China, leading the way beyond regular operations. Our contribution to exploring new markets is remarkable. With the introduction of this new route, the Himalaya aims to create memorable travel experiences while maintaining the highest safety standards.
