In view of the growing cases of COVID-19 infection in the Nepal, the meeting of the Council of Ministers decided to extend the lockdown in Nepal till June 2.

In view of the growing cases of COVID-19 infection in the country, the meeting of the Council of Ministers decided to extend the lockdown order till June 2. The decision was taken on Sunday.

Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Dr Yubaraj Khatiwada, informed that the extension of the lockdown in Nepal was made in line with Section 2 of the Infectious Disease Act, 2020.

Also the Spokesperson of the government, Minister Dr Khatiwada said the meeting also discussed the modality of lockdown. However, it would be discussed thoroughly by the High-Level Coordination Committee for the Prevention and Control of COVID-19 and recommendation made to the Nepal government for decision later.

He further said agricultural production and supply, industrial activities, transportation, construction- both big and small- will be allowed continuity but with adoption of safety measure. Raising public awareness on production and consumption of medicinal herbs for building resilient body, effective management in quarantine, control of the anomalous activities, the safety of the people in border area, change in lifestyle to cope with coronavirus, continuity of production linking home returnees to work were also discussed in the meeting, the spokesperson shared.
