German federal prosecutors say they are taking charge of the investigation into the suspected sabotage of a railway communication system that brought trains to a standstill Saturday across northwestern Germany.
Due to the seriousness of the case, the federal prosecutor's office said on Thursday that it is taking over the investigation from state detectives.
On Saturday morning, trains in the northwesterly states of Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein, Lower Saxony, and Bremen were stopped for about three hours. That was required, according to railway operator Deutsche Bahn, since a digital train communication system malfunctioned._AP news
