Chitwan National Park (CNP) has successfully released two rhino calves into the wild, both of which were reared by the park. The National Trust for Nature Conservation in Sauraha had been caring for the calves, named Pushpa and Anjali, until they were transported by truck to the Tamital area for their release. Unlike most rescued animals, the calves were not darted during their capture, as reported by Dr. Bijaya Shrestha, the park's vet.
Pushpa and Anjali were rescued from different parts of the park after they were separated from their mothers, with Pushpa being rescued in January 2020 from Tamasapur and Anjali in April 2021 from Kujauli. They were both around two months old when they were rescued, and they have since been weaned off of their milk diet and can now eat fodder by themselves. The release of these two rhino calves is an important step in conserving the endangered species and is a testament to the efforts of Chitwan National Park and its partners._Rss
