Kathmandu, Nepal – June 26, 2025 — Aloft Kathmandu Thamel has made history as the first 5-star hotel in Nepal to be honored with the Waste Smart Certificate, awarded by Creasion Ventures Inc. in partnership with Creasion Nepal. The certificate recognizes the hotel’s exceptional efforts in promoting sustainability through plastic waste recycling and supporting inclusive livelihood programs.
This milestone comes after the hotel recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Navish Nepal Pvt. Ltd., in collaboration with Creasion Ventures Inc., to establish a systematic plastic waste collection and recycling initiative.
Through this program, plastic materials and bottles are collected regularly and recycled in line with national environmental regulations and best practices. Aloft Kathmandu Thamel promptly activated the initiative following the MoU signing, successfully conducting its first official transfer of plastic waste, including bottles and used toiletries such as shampoo, conditioner, and bath gel containers.
“This collaboration reflects our belief that environmental responsibility, especially under Marriott International’s Serve 360, is a core part of hospitality,” said Vikram Singh, General Manager of Aloft Kathmandu Thamel. “We are proud to take the lead in setting new sustainability standards in Nepal.”
In addition to recycling efforts, the partnership also promotes economic inclusion by planning to transform recycled materials into eco-friendly souvenirs for guests and exploring additional circular economy solutions, such as repurposing old staff uniforms.
