Additional vigilance on border to make lockdown more effective

The government has adequately mobilised the Armed Police Force (APF) on Nepal-India border to make the lockdown more effective. On the border area alone, 6,000 APF persons have been mobilized after the entry of Nepalis via clandestine routes continued in the wake of the coronavirus spread. The border points are completely closed and people's movements banned by both countries.

At a press conference organized at Crisis Management Centre of Nepal Army, it was informed that the APF was reinforced with additional human resources to make lockdown effective.

A spokesperson at the Ministry of Health and Population Dr Bikas Devkota said the border security was beefed up to check people's movement so that chance of spreading COVID-19 would subside.

As three more cases of COVID-19 infection were reported in Birgunj today, the government has hinted at mobilizing additional security forces. Meanwhile, a total of 2,230 Nepalis are in quarantine in India. They could come to Nepal after a two-week stay in quarantine. Even after the return, they need to stay on home quarantine. Similarly, a total of 661 Indians are in quarantine in Nepal currently.

According to Ministry Spokesperson Dr Devkota, the security agencies had provided the information that as many as 57,000 people violated the lockdown.
