Nepal’s first and only carbon neutral airline furthers its cause for a greener future with the idea of use of electric vans

Yeti Airlines. the crusader for green airlines in Nepal, is further pushing it’s agenda of a cleaner environment by testing the use of an electric van in the airport premises. The first trial of the use of electric van was held on August 23, 2019.  This event was graced by Yeti Airlines’ Managing Director, Ms. Chanda Sherpa and UNDP Nepal Resident Representative, Ms. Ayshanie Medagangoda Labé.

If the results of the electric van trial are positive and environment friendly, Yeti Airlines will be using the Mahindra e-Supro electric vans as opposed to the 20 units Petrol engine vans they are currently using.

This initiative of the Airlines will further promote Sustainable Development Goal No. 13 ‘Climate Action’. Yeti has been affiliated with this goal for quite sometime and is setting new standards for a greener airline future.

Yeti Airlines Managing Director Chanda Sherpa said, “We take pride in being a pioneer to endorse a positive change in Nepal with our Electric vans which I believe will encourage everyone to make a conscious effort to save our earth.”

Yeti Airlines was also able to offset it’s GHG emissions by attaining carbon credits, i.e. Certified Emission Reductions under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) through the ‘Climate Neutral Now’ platform. It continues to work on the Everest Clean Up campaign.

Congratulating Yeti Airlines on unveiling its first trial electric car, Resident Representative of UNDP Ayshanie Medagangoda Labé said, “We are pleased to see Yeti’s one more step forward in its carbon neutrality journey.”
