The Tea Testing Centre to be constructed is a facility solely dedicated for the improvement of the quality of tea. The State 1 government intends to see through with its construction within the next two years and accordingly allocated Rs 50 million in the coming fiscal year 2019/20.
Rana Bahadur Rai, Mayor of Suryodaya municipality said, "There will be 80 per cent partnership of the State government and 20 per cent of the municipality for the construction of the centre at Rs 260 million." Tea farmers believe that construction of this centre would help in the promotion of Ilam's orthodox tea in the market. After the construction of the centre, the organic tests of the tea leaves would be conducted in the nation and it would be sent out of the country only for the final result. With this in mind, the centre will also house a tea information centre.
