Vietnam Omicron cases have followed other Southeast Asia countries where while the cases have spiked in recent weeks but hospitalization and deaths have been fewer and more stable

Vietnam, seeing countries like Thailand, the Philippines, Singapore, Indonesia taking steps to reopen travel in Southeast Asia, has announced a proposal of fully reopening the country to foreign visitors and lifting nearly all travel restrictions from March 15.

This proposal by the tourism ministry, which will be submitted to Prime Minister for approval, will reopen three months earlier than planned. Vietnam Omicron cases have followed other Southeast Asia countries where while the cases have spiked in recent weeks but hospitalization and deaths have been fewer and more stable. 

The proposals include maintaining a one-day quarantine requirement for visitors and will require negative COVID-19 before departure and on arrival. Vietnam from November 2021 has allowed foreign visitors to explore designated places under a vaccine passport program and originally planned to reopen by June 2022.
