Three sections of the Beni-Jomsom-Korla road project under construction in Myagdi, Mustang, and Parbat have been stalled.

According to the project, the process has been initiated to break the contract with the construction company that is blocking the road connecting the Korla Pass, which is located on the border with Tibet, an autonomous region of China, near the Kaligandaki Corridor connecting North-South under the project of National Pride.

Kosi & Neupane JV was awarded the contract to construct Charang-Choser and Kowang-Jomsom roads. In 2073, the contract was signed for Rs. 260 million including taxes. The 25 km long Charang-Choser road was widened by 11 meters and the work of making walls, drains, and gravel was to be completed in December 2075. The contractor has not worked in this section since 2076.

Even in this section, which was supposed to be completed in May 2076, 60 percent of the physical progress has not been made at a relatively fast pace for the last three years.

Jomsom Kagbeni 13 km black paper road and other structures, the project signed a contract with Rautaha-Atreya-Saras JV Kathmandu on Kartik 4, 2078 for Rs 280 million 14 lakhs. The contractor has not started work on this road even after one year of the contract, which has an expiry date of October 4, 2080. Out of seven sections of Jomsom Korla 110 km road, six sections have been completed and handed over to Kaligandaki Corridor. Out of the four sections of Beni-Jomsom, 12 km road from Ghasa to Khanti has been paved.

“A public notice was issued for the first time on Kartik 22 to terminate the contract with the company that had undertaken the construction of the road in Khanti-Jomsom, Jomsom-Kagbeni, and Charang-Choser sections. Despite repeated reminders, we have started the process of canceling the contract as the construction work has not been continued. We will also issue a notice for the second time,” said Project head Jagat Prajapati._Rss
