At the press briefing, The Tourism Bureau announcer said that preparations were underway to open Taiwan's borders to tourism soon. There have been many meetings and many key figures in the Taiwanese tourism industry have been taking part. In these high-profile meetings, the topic of lifting travel restrictions have been brought up.
The Bureau has hoped cross-border tourism can be opened conditionally reopened in stages with the permission of the nation's Central Epidemic Command Center (EPCC). The consensus of the meetings till now has been to allow foreign tourists from the third or fourth quarter under the condition they are vaccinated to a certain degree.
The question of vaccine requirements, the tour groups, the restrictions and many other details have yet to be ironed out in further meetings. But the bureau has said that the priority has been to allow foreign tourists in rather than allowing Taiwanese people to travel overseas.
