The endangered blackbuck (krishnasar in Nepali) recently adopted Shuklaphanta National Park in Kanchanpur as their habitat.

Currently, Shuklaphanta is home to 211 blackbucks.

Blackbuck is one of the threatened species listed as endangered under the National Parks and Wildlife Protection Act of 2029, and it is widespread in Khairapur in Bardia. Previously, blackbucks were found only in Nepalgunj, Central Zoo, Khairapur in Bardia, and Mirgasthali in Kathmandu.

Considering the potential for suitable habitat, blackbucks were initially moved to Shuklaphanta from Nepalgunj and Lalitpur's Central Zoo and Khairapur in Bardia. Twenty-eight blackbucks were relocated during the first phase, and 14 more in the second phase.

Chief conservation officer of Shuklaphanta National Park, Kishore Kumar Mehta, shared, “An artificial lake and a "seed house" (chahari) have been constructed for the blackbucks at Hirapurphant, which is about four kilometres north of the highway, and the Arjuni Post of the Nepali Army has also been arrayed for the protection of the eastern area of the park.”

Mehta also mentioned the high population growth of blackbucks indicates that Shuklaphanta is a suitable habitat for them. _Rss
