President Bidya Devi Bhandari today presented the government's policy and programmes for the upcoming fiscal year 2077-78 BS (2020-21) before a joint session of the Federal Parliament in New Baneshwor.
Prior to this, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli handed a copy of the policy and programmes to the President. As per the constitutional calendar, budget for the upcoming fiscal year shall be presented on Jeth 15 (May 28) every year. The practice is that the policy and programmes will be presented two weeks before the budget announcement. Pre-budget discussions were already held in Parliament. Following the completion of the President's address, the second meeting of the parliament is scheduled to take place at 18:00 pm today.
Earlier, President Bhandari was welcomed by House of Representatives Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota, National Assembly Chairperson Ganesh Prasad Timalsina and Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Dr Shivamaya Tumbahangphe among others. A guard of honour was offered to the President on the occasion.
