Police persons who are working round the clock for ensuring security to the public are themselves facing a problem of shortage of basic personal protective equipment.
The police have been mobilised at every settlement and at the border area to enforce the lockdown announced by the government to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. A majority of them are working without face masks or gloves. Police personnel and health workers have been mobilised at the frontline in the fight against coronavirus but they have not been provided with PPEs.
"The Kapilvastu Police has managed PPEs through their own resources but that is not sufficient," Kapilvastu District Police Office Chief Superintendent Deep Shamsher JBR said. According to him, half of the 800 police persons in the district have been mobilised for security at various quarantine facilities in the district.
The neighbouring district Rupandehi is also struggling with the same problem. Rupandehi Police Chief Superintendent Hem Kumar Thapa said, "The District Police Office has managed some PPEs through their own resources for police personnel but that is not enough for all the police personnel working at the frontline."
