Under the project, Korea will spend 1.5 million US dollars in the first phase in coordination with various partner organisations. The Korean team conducted an on-site study of the public transport and route and infrastructure in the region.
According to the team, it is believed that by the end of the project, Pokhara's urban transport management will be technology-friendly and smart. According to the agreement, every citizen will get information about public transport services running in Pokhara through digital means. Passengers will not have to wait for a long time for the bus, and even the driver will not be able to pick up and drop passengers at random.
“Under the project, bus stops will be constructed at 1,286 locations on 84 bus routes of Pokhara. Bus terminals will be constructed at three such locations.” Said Jeon Hyen Kim, project manager of the Korea Railway Research Institute, the team leader.
“For which the first phase will cost 1.5 million dollars. Half of this amount will be spent on installing machines at bus stops and buses.” said the team leader. The project aims to further expand Pokhara's main Prithvi Chowk. In the first phase of this project, which will be completed in three phases, the initial phase of urban traffic management will be completed by 2025. In the second phase, a sustainable green transportation system will be developed by 2030.
“Pokhara will have the best urban transport management model technology in the world. It has been agreed between the two parties that during the project, the condition of vehicles currently in Nepal and the experience of traffic management in Korea will be used.” said Kim.
“This project will help in the development of an environment-friendly transport system in Pokhara. Bus usage will significantly increase, making it more difficult to control Pokhara's expanding urbanization and traffic congestion. I think that lowering carbon emissions will also make it simpler for passengers to find out everything they need to know about public transportation.” Said Dhanraj Acharya, head of Pokhara Metropolitan City._Rss
