In the wake of rising Omicron cases in the country and discussions of a 'smart lockdown', the Immigration Department of Nepal has issued a notice about preventing COVID-19 infections. The department requested visitors from Nepal to not visit other countries with the Omicron variant unless in special and urgent circumstances.
The department also has announced prohibiting the entry of passengers from countries with the Omicron variant. These countries include South Africa, Bostwana, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Lesotho, Eswatini, Mozambique, Malawi and Hong Kong) with travellers who have visited those countries in the past three weeks being barred from entry.
In the case of Nepalis returning from the nine countries with Omicron and other high-risk countries, the department has reported that any citizen who has two full weeks of full vaccination and have their PCR report negative from the past 72 hours and not be required to stay a 10-day home quarantine.
While in the situation of any national or foreigners who have not been vaccinated or have received it in less than 14 days, will be sent to institutional isolation if the PCR reports show positive. If the PCR test is negative, foreign nationals will need to do a 10-day home quarantine after which they will be allowed entry.
The department has explained that these changes and new restrictions will be only applied to countries where the Omicron variant of the virus has popped up.
