There was much hype and anticipation when Nepal Railways had announced the new Kurtha-Jayanagar train was being technical tested from February 13, connecting Nepal and India. But after the technical test was completed yet no commercial launch date was provided excitement soon turned into impatience.
Hundreds of people observing the station have said that an empty train arrives at the station in Kurtha and returns to Jayanagar at 1 pm. The state-owned Nepal Railways has announced that while the testing for the railway has been completed but has not been informed when the railway will be commercially launched.
Nepal Railway has further clarified that the prime ministers of both Nepal and India would launch and inaugurate the railway. But due to their busy schedules, the people have not been able to travel on the railway.
The railway has been built with the assistance of the government of India. They plan to run two services daily in the first phase. The twice-daily service will serve at least 5,000 travellers. The cross-border train route will last 1 hour 30 minutes. A general coach ticket will cost Rs70. According to officials, a ticket on a coach with air-conditioning will cost Rs300.
