The long-awaited electric buses and vans in Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha, are finally set to operate after being idle for more than two years due to legal hurdles. The Lumbini Province Government failed to make arrangements for the legal process for operating the five electric buses and 14 vans, which were given by donor agencies as grant assistance.
However, preparations are underway to convert their number plates from white to green, indicating that they are operated for tourism purposes. These vehicles, costing Rs 130 million and received under the Clean Energy Project, have automatic doors and are disabled-friendly. Charging stations have also been constructed in Lumbini at a cost of Rs. 139 million for the operation of these vehicles. The goal is to make Lumbini pollution-free and convenient for tourists visiting the area related to Buddhism._Rss
