Until about a decade and a half ago, the Budikhola river, which runs along the eastern border of Sunsari, was thought to be Itahari's Masanghat (crematorium). Previously, visiting a crematorium made everyone apprehensive, but people tend to congregate on the river's banks lately.
Shree Krishna Pranami Temple was assembled for religious purposes in Ward No. 4 in west Masanghat; along the river, Budhi Khola was littered all over. A significant risk of exploitation of neighboring livelihoods existed due to unauthorized quarrying of stones, gravel, and sand in the river. The Masanghat and the temple have both endured amendments. The former bank of the river is now referred to as Jamuna Mukti Ghat.
Locals claim that Budhiganga Jamuna Mukti Ghat lures visitors of all ages. They say, "Earlier people were cremated by the river, when they were cremated on the bank of Khela, the corpses would sometimes be washed away by floods during the rainy season. But now this place has become like a park. There is a crowd of people visiting here from different places."
Reconstruction of the cremation and temple has been done in Budhi Khola by spending more than 10 million rupees. Since its creation, it has gained notoriety as a destination for religious travelers._RSS
