With China's 'zero-COVID' strategy and the strict measures taken due to the Winter Olympics, China has further tightened their policies. China's National Immigration Administration has announced that it will not be renewing passports for non-essential travel due to the COVID-19 situation risk being still severe.
The government announced on social media that it will normally issue passport renewals for individuals looking to travel abroad for study, employment or business. But anyone renewing passports for leisure travel will not be renewed. This is in addition to the restrictions China has put on cross-border travel to lower the risk of the virus being brought from overseas.
