IATA expects about 4 billion airline passengers in 2024 which will be about 103% per cent of total passengers travelling through the air in 2021

With the ongoing dissolution of travel restrictions and requirements to travel all around the world with many airlines and destinations alike preparing for the upcoming summer holiday surge, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) has said that it was the global aviation industry to full recovery by 2024 being the year where air travel exceeds pre-pandemic levels.

This has been observed and noted by the IATA due to the rapidly changing landscape of the sector in different regions of the world.  This has been noted and kept in mind in the latest update to IATA's long term forecast. But the industry has been following IATA's previous predictions from November before changing their forecast due to the emergence of COVID-19 Omicron variants.

The new data and research has shown that while Omicron initially dipped numbers in the last months of 2021, has not proved to be affecting recovery prospects for the upcoming year. IATA expects about 4 billion airline passengers in 2024 which will be about 103% per cent of total passengers travelling through the air in 2021. But one caveat is that while the global travel and aviation industry has been projected to recover by 2024, domestic aviation and intra-regional travel may take more time to recover.
