With the world's global tourism and travel industry getting back on track and getting back to normalcy, the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) has launched new guidance to help travel agents to incorporate sustainability into their business practices.
The guidance and advice from the ABTA were developed in response to feedback from travel agents members for more support on how to adopt a sustainable approach. Research shows that almost three times as many people now put sustainability as a significant factor while planning their holiday, compared to a decade ago.
The ABTA guidance on sustainability mainly focuses on four aspects - environment, destination management, animal welfare and human rights. The guidance will help the travel agents focus on these areas to find a sustainable approach that is suitable for their business, whatever the size.
The guidance also provides case studies on what the industry is doing, including data from agents, tour operators and other suppliers. ABTA hopes that their guidance will help their customers who have been rebuilding from the pandemic help make sustainable approaches to be more resilient for future incidents.
