Nepal is preparing to sign a bilateral air agreement with the United States, Switzerland, Indonesia and Rwanda while expanding the international air network.

After the air agreement with America, it is said that United Airlines of America, American Airlines, National flag carrier Nepal Airline Corporation (Nepal Airlines) and Himalaya Airlines can fly on behalf of Nepal. Currently in Nepal, international airlines including Turkish Airlines, Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlines, Thai Air are providing Nepal-US flight services through various transits.

Final preparations have been made for the bilateral air agreement between Nepal and Switzerland. At the 41st Triennial General Assembly of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) recently held in Montreal, Canada, the two countries reached an agreement in principle on the preliminary air agreement.

According to the Ministry of Tourism, final preparations are being made for an air agreement between Nepal and Indonesia. The Ministry has set the official GSA for Indonesia-Nepal two-way flights. Society International of Nepal is the official CSA for Garuda Air of Indonesia.

Since Nepal has made progress in all aspects, it is believed that this time it will be removed from the EU's security list 'Air Safety List'. "Currently, our (Nepal's) status is good in all respects, so it seems that the EU audit team has come to Nepal to see the current status of Nepal.

In December 2013, ICAO listed Nepali Airlines as a serious security concern due to increased risk in Nepal's aviation security. Previously, in the latest audit conducted by ICAO, Nepali Akas was found to be safe. In ICAO's safety audit, Nepal scored 70.1 percent.

The ICAO team submitted a report to the authority on the increase in safety score of Nepali aviation sector after detailed study and evaluation from 13th April to 25th April. Since 2013, the European Commission under the EU has placed Nepal in the security list, showing serious security concerns over Nepal's airspace.

“The necessary procedures for bilateral air service agreements with various countries including the US have been initiated. The United States has shown interest in the air contract. We are preparing to conclude an air contract with that country soon." Said Budhisagar Lamichhane, Chief and Joint Secretary of the Civil Aviation Division of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation.

“There is an MOU for air connectivity between Nepal and Switzerland and MoUs with many other countries are in the pipeline.” Said Director General of Nepal Civil Aviation Authority Pradeep Adhikari.

"Nepal has reached the final stage of an air service agreement with Switzerland. Switzerland was interested in making an air contract with Nepal. We (Nepal) agreed to go through the process and make an agreement. A 'record of discussion' has been made at the meeting. Both countries will make internal preparations and complete it soon." Said Joint Secretary Lamichhane.

“When Nepal enters into bilateral air agreements with other countries, it will help in expanding the international communication network as well as strengthening the diplomatic relations between the two countries. It is a good thing to have an air agreement because there are easy air flights in the respective countries through the airlines of ‘cord sharing’.” Said Joint Secretary Lamichhane._Rss
