With the recent re-openings in neighbouring countries like the Philippines, Thailand, Singapore and many more, the Vietnamese Prime Minister has approved the proposal by the Tourism Ministry to restart international tourism by March 15.
The slated time for reopening by the proposal, March 15, will be three months earlier than the planned time to re-open borders. The Vietnamese PM has requested competent authorities to make a detailed plan to re-open Vietnamese localities as well as to propose a visa issuance policy for international arrivals.
In a meeting held Tuesday, details have come out that the tourism, health, foreign affairs and transports have proposed the government to resume travel policies of pre-pandemic including unilateral visa exemption policy for 13 countries and bilateral visa exemption regime for 88 countries.
In addition, the proposal will require international tourists to pay 30 dollars USD per person to enjoy insurance benefits worth 10,000 dollars for COVID treatment in Vietnam. With the numbers in 2021 (157,300) plunging 95.9 per cent year-on-year, the proposal now dictates that foreign travellers do not need to book tour packages with designated travel agencies as per the ongoing vaccine passport trial program.
