Tourists now visit Annapurna's 'Northern' base camp in Narchang, Annapurna Rural Municipality-4, Myagdi, Sharadyam, Nepal, with newly improved infrastructure.

In a remarkable turn of events, tourists have begun flocking to the 'North' base camp of Annapurna, situated in the breathtaking locale of Narchang within Annapurna Rural Municipality-4 of Myagdi, Sharadyam region.

This year, domestic tourists have been drawn to Sharadyam following significant advancements in tourism infrastructure, including the construction and promotion of footpaths, suspension bridges, resting areas, and shelters along the 'Maurice Hergoz Trail.' This trail links the base camp to Narchang, making it more accessible to adventurers.

Shyam Purja, a ward member of Annapurna-4, highlighted the recent surge in domestic tourist activity, while foreign mountaineers have yet to inundate Sharadyam in pursuit of scaling the mountain. He noted that in prior years, the Annapurna base camp was bustling with mountaineers arriving by helicopter during the spring season, only to be deserted in the autumn.

The Nilgiri Khola hydropower project has played a crucial role in improving access to the North Annapurna base camp by constructing a 20-kilometer road, effectively reducing the distance from Narchang to 42 kilometers. Moreover, a footpath spanning 22 km, from Humkhola to the base camp, has been established.

Annapurna I, standing at an impressive 8,071 meters, witnessed its first ascent on June 3, 1950, thanks to French mountaineer Maurice Herzog. This achievement marked a significant milestone in the history of mountaineering, with Annapurna serving as the first 8,000-meter peak ever conquered by humanity. The 'Maurice Herzog Trail,' identified in 2068, follows Herzog's path to the base camp and has received substantial investment from the Ministry of Tourism for promotion.

Sumnima Baruwal, a resident of Annapurna Rural Municipality-6 in Pokhrebgar, emphasized the scenic beauty along the Mistrikhola's banks, originating from the foothills of the Annapurna and Nilgiri mountains. The route showcases towering waterfalls, picturesque snow-capped peaks, unique geography, and diverse flora and fauna. A notable attraction at the foot of Annapurna is the enchanting Panchkund Lake, which spans approximately 20,000 square meters.

In May, a delegation comprising journalists and public representatives from Myagdi embarked on a journey along the Maurice Herzog trail, visiting the Annapurna base camp for promotional purposes. Furthermore, the Annapurna base camp gained visibility through a photo exhibition organized by the Myagdi Pravasi Nepali Sangh (MONA) Australia on their Facebook page.

Amrit Subedi, the Chief Administrative Officer of Annapurna Rural Municipality, credited these promotional efforts for the increased tourist arrivals at the Annapurna base camp. Chairman Bharatkumar Pun expressed the rural municipality's commitment to enhancing infrastructure, including food and lodging facilities, communication, and access to drinking water at the base camp, to ensure a memorable experience for all visitors._Rss
