Starting April 13, Thamel, the bustling tourist hub of Kathmandu, is set to transform into a round-the-clock operational zone, as announced by the Thamel Tourism Development Council. Chairing this initiative, Bhabiswor Sharma shared that meticulous preparations have been undertaken to ensure the seamless functioning of businesses not only in Thamel but also in the adjacent Durbarmarg areas. Under the supervision of the District Administration Office of Kathmandu, paramount emphasis will be placed on maintaining security and effective management within these areas.
Hari Prasad Sharma, the Assistant Chief District Officer of Kathmandu, elaborated on the comprehensive security measures that have been carefully crafted to enforce the decision permitting night-time business operations. He further emphasized the implementation of tough safety protocols, which have been devised in collaboration with various stakeholders, to ensure the smooth operation of businesses throughout the night.
As part of this initiative, all features of the tourism industry in Thamel, encompassing clubs, dance venues, and bar, will extend their operational hours. Chairperson Sharma underscored that this endeavor will encompass all areas of Thamel with the exception of Bhagawanbahal, following extensive consultations and coordination with relevant stakeholders. Additionally, he emphasized that businesses failing to adhere to the prescribed code of conduct will face closure starting April 14.
In essence, this groundbreaking decision to enable 24/7 operations in Thamel marks a significant step towards enhancing the vibrancy and accessibility of Kathmandu's premier tourist destination, offering visitors and locals alike the opportunity to immerse themselves in its lively ambiance at any hour of the day or night.
